Does a Wolf Wall Oven Need an Air Gap Behind the Trim?

The short answer

Yes. The appliance is designed to move air around the cavity and out through the trim, and the opening it sits in has to allow that. The clearances are model-specific and are published for each model, so nobody should work from a general figure. Wolf Appliance Repair Denver will read yours against the guide: (720) 807-8323.

Why it does that

The trim is not decoration on a built-in oven; it is the last part of the cooling circuit. Air enters the column low, passes around the insulated cavity and leaves at the top, and the vent in the trim is the outlet. Close it and the heat has nowhere to go but into the joinery and back into the appliance. That is why the opening is specified rather than left to judgement, and why the specified figure belongs to a particular model: two ovens of the same nominal width can want different things behind the same-looking front.

Cooling air around a built-in oven AROUND OUT IN CAVITY
Room air is drawn in low, passes around the outside of the cavity and leaves through the vent in the trim. The cabinet is part of that path.

Why no number appears here

A figure lifted off a repair site and pencilled onto a drawing is how an oven ends up in an opening that will not vent. The requirement is published per model. Get the model number off the rating plate on the appliance itself, then take the clearance from its own document.
